About the Speaker
Stamenka Antonova holds a doctorate in Early Christianity from Columbia University and she has taught ancient religion and western civilization at several academic institutions in the greater New York area. She has published a number of articles in her field of specialization and she is the author of the forthcoming book Barbarian or Greek?: The Charge of Barbarism and Early Christian Apologetics (Brill Press, 2018).
Topic
Dr. Stamenka Antonova will explore the topic: The Cradle of Early Christianity: Ancient Mediterranean Culture and Religious Art at the Met. This guided tour of the antiquities art collection at the Metropolitan Museum of Art will incorporate religious artifacts from the Ancient Mediterranean, including Mycenean, Greek and Roman civilizations. There will be special focus on religious beliefs and practices preceding Christianity, as well as early Jewish and Christian art from the late antique and early medieval periods.
