Dear Cornerstone Partners and friends of CU Lux,
Who is God? A three-word question seeking an answer at Yale. God is more wonderful than our words can express. He is always better than we can imagine, infinitely more than we can grasp. His majesty and glory are greater than our imagination. But God becomes Emmanuel: God with us, God with the world, God with Yale. To relate to us and for us to relate to him, he makes himself known in conversation. The conversation reaches a climax when the Word becomes flesh (John 1), and we at CU Lux have seen his glory.
If you walked past Sterling Memorial Library during the fall semester, you would have seen our CU Lux table with the banner asking, “Who is God?” Students who approach the table are invited to sit down for a conversation over coffee or ice cream with one of our student leaders. No conversation is the same, but each one centers on who God is in Jesus Christ. Each one is personal: students share who Christ is to them and how knowing him at Yale changes everything. Each conversation ends with another question: Who is God to you?
Engaging in a conversation about God as a Yale student is a more personal than an intellectual exercise. Emmanuel, God with us, turns out to be the best argument. Nothing is more convincing than a positive witness on the lips of a student: Emmanuel – God with me, for me, before me, beside me.
This holiday season is a time for celebration. As students hang “Who is God?” banners and find answers over coffee, conversations about God continue. God can change everything, and everything can start with a conversation.
Who is God? A three-word question seeking an answer. He is God with us, God with Yale, God with you and your family in 2022.
Blessings,
