Dear Cornerstone Partners and friends of CU Lux,

Successful people brag. They produce their images of success and unleash their propaganda in ads, campaigns, and Instagram posts. That’s because success stories attract influencers, mobilize resources, generate opportunities, and raise the standard of living. Successful people mostly brag about wisdom, might, and wealth.

It was Jeremiah the prophet who encouraged the wise not to boast in their wisdom, the mighty not to boast in their might, and the wealthy in their wealth (Jeremiah 9:23). He knew Jerusalem was destined to fail if she bragged about the wrong stuff. So he offered an alternative agenda for bragging: “but let him who boasts boast in this, that he understands and knows me, that I am the Lord (vs. 24a).” The prophet replaced the fashionable agenda of wisdom, might, and wealth with another triad: “I am the Lord who practices steadfast love, justice, and righteousness” (vs. 24b).

Two weeks before Yale’s 321st commencement, CU Lux organized our famed senior banquet. This year-end celebration honors the accomplishments of graduating seniors and recognizes the outstanding contributions of students to our faith community at Yale. We are beyond proud of their spiritual and relational growth. Jeremiah himself would have been proud. As students shared stories and celebrated each other with toasts, they kept boasting about the privilege of knowing God at Yale and how through Bible courses, faculty mentorship, and friendship, their knowledge of God has been enriched. By the end of the banquet, each CU Lux graduate was nominated for the Love, Justice, and Righteousness Award.

Thank you for the support which helped our graduates get here and for the prayers which will continue to cheer them on. Now they’ve graduated to pursue advanced degrees or take jobs in high-powered firms, but they leave boasting about the God of the covenant. By delighting in God’s delight, they will leave an incredible mark on their professions and communities and courageously chart a path toward human flourishing through love, justice, and righteousness. This triad never goes unnoticed. It’s God’s way towards success.

Blessings,
