How a Handful of Schools are Shaping American Society

Leaders matter. For better or for worse – they determine what we represent as a society, who we are as a people, and where we are going as a nation.

A relatively small number of leaders from just a handful of leading universities are shaping American culture. The universities they attend are almost devoid of Christian influence. Professors are free to mold students according to their secular and materialist ideologies.

If we don't intervene at these universities now, we can't expect the future to improve.

But what if these schools, with all their vast spending and infrastructure, were leveraged to develop Christian leaders? Graduates would be well-positioned to lead in their industries in ways that reflect Christ.

In 2002, Christian Union launched a ministry tailored to transform these influential schools. The effectiveness of the program depends upon exceptionally well-trained ministry fellows. Ministry fellows introduce non-Christian students to the Gospel of Jesus Christ, lead in-depth Bible courses each week, mentor students to live out their faith, and coach them to lead change on their campuses.

There are now more than 1,400 students enrolled in Christian Union Bible courses and growing in their knowledge of the Lord at several culturally influential schools: Brown, Columbia, Cornell, Dartmouth, Harvard College, Harvard Law, Princeton, University of Pennsylvania, Stanford, and Yale. Students are being instructed biblically, cared for holistically, and equipped for leadership. They are being changed for life.

However 90 percent of the students at these campuses still have no contact with a Christian church or ministry; they live and breathe in a spiritually stifling and morally confused secular campus culture.

Imagine how these campuses and the world would change if thousands of additional students could grow into bold, godly influencers. Together we have an opportunity to train the next generation of leaders to be men and women who honor the Lord and bless society.
