In the days of his flesh, Jesus offered up prayers and supplications, with loud cries and tears, to him who was able to save him from death, and he was heard because of his reverence.
— Hebrews 5:7

Are Human Embryos Human Beings? Are They 'Persons'?

By Dr. Robert P. George

From Harvard Law Students for Life

Students involved in the ministry Christian Union resources and supports at Harvard Law School were instrumental in helping to launch the Harvard Law Students for Life Association in 2016. In this video, Dr. Robert P. George, McCormick Professor of Jurisprudence at Princeton University, speaks at the organization's inaugural event. Dr. George argues that human embryos are human beings (scientifically speaking) and human persons (philosophically speaking), and thus that they should be protected. The video is 59:00 in length. Dr. George's lecture begins at the 5:20 mark.

A Power With (Part 2)

By Justin Doyle

From ChristianUnion.org

This is part two of a two-part series. We ran part one last week. It can be read here.

The reality of the fact that the way humans exercise the power to subdue and rule, which was granted to humanity in the Creation Mandate of Genesis 1:26-28, is to mirror the gracious, loving and generous Artisan, the Creator who summons forth a flourishing world out of a dark, primordial chaos, and is consequential in how we live out our faith today. The implications are numerous, but today I’d like to discuss two.

How History's Revivals Teach Us to Pray

By  David R. Thomas
From Christianity Today

pray 3

From 1949 to 1952, the unthinkable unfolded on Scottish islands known as the Hebrides: revival! Seemingly out of nowhere, a spiritual awakening swept across the islands of Lewis and Harris, replacing post–World War II despair and depression with earnest, zealous faith. Some historians believe this was the last genuine awakening in the western world...

The Blindness of Social Wealth

By David Brooks
From New York Times

5 social wealth

Bob Hall was a rancher. In 1936, in the midst of the Depression, he was suffering from a cancer that was eating the flesh on the side of his face. His ranch had dwindled to nearly nothing, and weeks after bankers took the last of his livestock, Hall died, leaving his family ...

Yes, California Is on the Verge of Banning Some Christian Books, Here’s How

By David French
From National Review
Late last week, I wrote an article that caused a bit of a furious reaction in social-justice Twitter. Activists claimed I was lying, arguing in bad faith, and/or exaggerating the effect of California’s AB 2943, a bill that purports to declare “sexual orientation change efforts” to be an “unlawful business practice.” I claimed the bill was so broad that it could even ban books...

Prayer Requests

UNIVERSITY MINISTRIES

Please continue to pray for our ministry faculty — for their time with students as the year winds down, and especially for their time with graduating seniors. Pray that these times together would be rich and fruitful.

CITY MINISTRIES
Several organizations, including CU New York, have organized a monthly prayer meeting for revival in New York City. The first prayer time will be Monday, May 9 from 6:30-7:30pm at W83 Ministry Center; 150 W. 83rd St., Manhattan. If you are in New York, please consider joining us for that hour to pray for our city. Otherwise, please pray for revival in New York, in your city or town, and in America.

DAY & NIGHT
Pray that God would meet each participant in The Great Experiment in powerful and transformative ways. Pray that the Gospel would go out from us and that lives would be forever changed. If you haven't yet signed up and would like to, it is not too late.
