Honor everyone. Love the brotherhood. Fear God. Honor the emperor.

Turning the World Upside Down
By Bishop Claude AlexanderFrom ChristianUnion.org
At the recent Christian Union Cities Conference in New York City, Bishop Claude Alexander, Senior Pastor of The Park Church, gave a two-part talk on the conference theme: turning the world upside down. |
Trials and Integrity
By Geoff SackettFrom ChristianUnion.org
Trials have the unmistakable quality of being difficult. Just ask Job, or Jeremiah, or Naomi, or Joseph. And yet they are not without purpose. It is not as if they show Satan has gained the upper hand. Or that God is wantonly cruel. Trials do not show that the Enemy has won or that God is vindictive. |
Winsome, But Firm
By Scott Ely ’18 and Molly Richmond ’18
From Christian Union: The Magazine
Recent graduates Molly Richmond and Scott Ely served as co-presidents of Harvard College Faith and Action during the past academic year. They shared their reflections on a challenging year, "We write first to thank you for all of your prayers over the years and especially in this most recent season of tension on Harvard’s campus. Throughout the past year, we have been amazed by God’s faithfulness..." |
Exile: A Roadmap for Resident Aliens
By Nick Nowalk
From HCFA
Watch an encouraging message on how Christians are to respond when the heat is turned up on the Christian community. The talk, on a passage in 1 Peter, was given by Christian Union Teaching Fellow Nick Nowalk at a Harvard College Faith & Action (HCFA, the ministry supported and resourced by Christian Union at Harvard) leadership lecture series event last spring. His visiting lecture was timely—delivered while the ministry was in the midst of challenges referred to in the previous article by Scott Ely and Molly Richmond. |
3 Things Your Calling is Not
By Ivan MesaFrom Gospel Coalition
In an article published on the Gospel Coalition website, Ivan Mesa writes, "I’ve always felt unsure whether or not—apart from my call to salvation in Christ—I had a more specific call that would explain what career path I should take. I’ve never been one of those people with a master plan for his life—a mental trajectory with a desired destination at the end of it. More often than not, I’ve felt my way around, stumbling into one thing, then the next." If you can relate, or are curious about your calling, this article—and the books listed at the end—will help. |
Prayer Requests
UNIVERSITY MINISTRIES
Please take a moment to pray for the hearts and minds of incoming freshmen who will be attending the universities where Christian Union works this Fall. Pray that God would be opening their hearts to the Gospel and to His Word, and that they would connect quickly with our faculty and returning students (or with other ministries). Please pray that we would see our largest freshman class ever get involved with Christian Union Bible courses.
CITY MINISTRIES
We are rejoicing in two significant events this month. On July 10, we hosted a well-attended welcome event for 2018 graduates of Christian Union ministries, and those engaged in summer internships, in New York City. The event established some great connections. On Saturday, we hosted the Christian Union DC launch event in Washington, DC, for recent grads and young professionals desiring to seek God and engage that city in redemptive, transformative ways. Please pray with us for efforts to draw recent graduates into these objectives in both cities, and particularly for the DC group to solidify and grow.
DAY & NIGHT
Pray for a spirit of humility and hunger for God’s Spirit to overwhelm the Church in America. Pray that thousands will join Christian Union Day and Night in an upcoming 21-day fast. Ask God to have mercy on America, change the direction of our culture, and multiply disciples by the millions.
