Go Fast to Slow Down

By Laurel Copp
From ChristianUnion.org
When was the last time you couldn’t fall asleep because your mind was racing, and you couldn’t slow down your thoughts? When this happens, one trick my father taught me as a kid is to quote, in order, the Psalms (or, let’s be honest, maybe just remember a snippet from some of them) until you fall asleep. The point of this trick is rest comes from being in God’s presence through His word and prayer. If you try my sleeping aid, it isn’t long before you reach the Psalms that talk about sleep.

56 Tough Bible Passages (and How to Understand and Teach Them)

By Trevin Wax
From The Gospel Coalition

5 passagesIn 2016, Brandon Smith and I launched a new podcast called Word Matters. The gist of the show goes like this: We take a contested or puzzling passage of the Bible, walk through the most common interpretations, and then recommend how to preach or teach the passage effectively. Advice for Students: Think for Yourselves

From James Madison Program, Princeton University
We are scholars and teachers at Princeton, Harvard, Yale, and other institutions who have some thoughts to share and advice to offer students across the country. Our advice can be distilled to three words: Think for yourself. Now, that might sound easy. But you will find that thinking for yourself can be a challenge. It always demands self-discipline and these days can require courage. In today’s climate, it’s all-too-easy to allow your views and outlook to be shaped by dominant opinion on your campus...

Prayer Requests

UNIVERSITY MINISTRIES
Freshmen are now arriving on university campuses. They are excited and a bit nervous. Pray that they would find quick connections with new classmates and begin to form healthy and wholesome relationships. Pray also for our ministry teams and returning students as they reach out to these freshmen that God's Holy Spirit would draw large numbers of them into His steadfast love that endures forever. May this be the beginning of a year that makes famous the name of the Lord Jesus Christ in our universities.

CITY MINISTRIES
We’re praising God for encouraging events in both Washington, DC, and New York for those just moving to these cities. We are also encouraged by the on-going 21 days of fasting and prayer underway (see below) and expect to see tangible results from it.

DAY & NIGHT

Praise the Father for raising up over 1,000 people from across this nation to pray and fast. We are humbling ourselves for 21 days (August 12-September 1) to seek God for national revival. Pray that the Lord will look upon us with mercy and turn hearts to Him.
