By Dr. Os Guinness

01 wrightOn Friday, January 17, 2020, CU New York had the privilege of hosting esteemed author and friend of the ministry, Dr. Os Guinness, for a forum on his most recent novel Carpe Diem Redeemed: Seizing the Day, Discerning the Times.

Dr. Guinness challenged the audience to consider the true meaning and significance of time, our own mortality, and how intentionally we choose to live out our callings for God’s purposes...

This is Devotion to Prayer

By Michael Racine
From Christian Union Day & Night
Note: This devotional was originally written for the current Christian Union Day & Night 10-day fast participants. Those of you who have joined us in fasting will have received this article via email. It is shared here for the edification and encouragement of all of our readers.

When Darius became king over Babylon and its vast empire, he acted as one might expect a prudent ruler to do: he “set over the kingdom 120 satraps [i.e., provincial governors], to be throughout the whole kingdom; and over them three high officials … to whom these satraps should give account, so that the king might suffer no loss” (Dan 6:1–2, ESV). Among these officials, Daniel became the most distinguished—noted for the “excellent spirit” in him—and Darius intended...

A Hidden Life is a Faith-Based Masterpiece

By Brett McCracken
From Gospel Coalition
03 hiddenlifeThe title of Terrence Malick’s A Hidden Life comes from a line in George Eliot’s Middlemarch: “The growing good of the world is partly dependent on unhistoric acts; and that things are not so ill with you and me as they might have been, is half owing to the number who lived faithfully a hidden life, and rest in unvisited tombs.”

The title is apt for this subject's story. Franz Jagerstatter is probably not a familiar name to you...

On the Public Reading of Scripture

By Roland Warren and Vincent DiCaro
From Care-Net.org
President and CEO of Care Net — and member of the Christian Union Board of Trustees — Roland C. Warren, with Vincent DiCaro, sat down with Bill Hwang from the Grace & Mercy Foundation at Care Net's National Conference to discuss the importance of the public reading of Scripture. For centuries, Christians have gathered together to read Scripture aloud. Why has this fallen out of favor and how can we bring it back?

Soaping the Slippery Slope

By Marvin Olasky
From wng.org

05 yaleWhat happened to so many once-Christian colleges in the United States? Two fine books describe the decline. George Marsden's 462-page The Soul of the American University shows how once-Protestant universities became secular look-alikes. James Burtchaell's The Dying of the Light: The Disengagement of Colleges and Universities from Their Christian Churches uses 868 pages to show not only how schools moved from liberal theism to secularism but how, before that, they moved from theologically conservative to liberal stances...

When Satan Takes the High Road, We Take the Low Road

By Andrew Wilson
From Christianity Today
"For we are not unaware of [Satan’s] schemes," says the apostle Paul in 2 Corinthians 2:11. We always forgive people, he says one verse earlier, because we know what the Devil is up to, and we are not having any of it. Similar logic underlies Paul’s insistence that Christians...

Prayer Requests

UNIVERSITY MINISTRIES
Please continue to pray specifically that God would raise up students who are passionate about praying for their ministries. Motivating students to pray is one of the greatest challenges that Christian Union ministry faculty face — in part because Satan would love to have the students settle for almost anything else. Pray that dynamic movements of prayer rise up at each of Christian Union university ministries.

CITY MINISTRIES

Please pray for our first Christian Union Doxa. It will be held in New York as a small group retreat. Christian Union Doxa will feature Bible reading, teaching, prayer, and worship. Please join us in praying for the participants.

DAY & NIGHT

Day and Night has created free online prayer guides to help people in their regular devotion to God. You can take “A TRIP” with God here. Pray that God uses these resources to invigorate His people and that our land would be saturated with people who seek God day and night.
