Participants Share Powerful Testimonies
By Chuck Hetzler, Director of CU Day & Night
God has a word for every nation. That’s why 4,500 American Christians joined Christian Union Day and Night’s fourteen-day fast on January 3-16, 2022.
If at any time I declare concerning a nation or a kingdom, that I will pluck up and break down and destroy it, and if that nation, concerning which I have spoken, turns from its evil, I will relent of the disaster that I intended to do to it. And if at any time I declare concerning a nation or a kingdom that I will build and plant it, and if it does evil in my sight, not listening to my voice, then I will relent of the good that I had intended to do to it. – Jeremiah 18:7-10
When Christians in a nation humble themselves with fasting, prayer, seeking God’s face, and repenting of our sins, God not only blesses the individual Christians who do so, but He also blesses the entire nation. We are the salt and light to the world around us; our world will decay and descend into darkness unless we, as Christians, walk uprightly with our Lord.
During the past few decades, the church in America has not taken seriously enough the need to pray, fast, and repent. But in decades and centuries previously, our forefathers in the faith earnestly and sacrificially sought God, and the Lord blessed our nation in revival and reformation in the 1700s, 1800s, and 1900s.
During its recent two-week fast, CU Day and Night sent daily email devotionals on the topic of Christian obedience to all those who participated. Many of the 4,500 individuals shared how they experienced God’s work in their own lives as well. Here a few examples of some of the testimonies we received:
“Through this fast, God has broken my heart WIDE open for the young, unchurched people of the United States. I have been driven to my knees like never before to plead with God to bring about revival to Gen Z (born year 2000-onward). My prayers include praying for God to raise up more faithful ministers to proclaim His truth, for local churches to radiate God's love, and especially for there to be a supernatural hunger for God's word in the Gen Z-ers. And for the church to be ready to teach, love, guide and disciple them when they do come. This has been a profound experience, and the interesting thing is, I don't want to lose this urge to pray and intercede. I don’t want to forget, ever, to pray daily for our nation's young people. To God be all the glory, and may He bless Gen Z and their families mightily in 2022!” – Anne D.
“I have been set free from a very negative attitude regarding a particular aspect of my job. I knew my attitude was wrong, but I had no power to change it. But in an instant, during my devotional time, the Holy Spirit brought it to my attention and, at that moment, it was just gone! It's been so great to go to work and not have that ‘attitude’ hanging over me. On another day, I found total peace, for the first time, over the loss of one of my daughters, who had died as a result of a drug overdose. The Lord spoke to me, at the time, to keep my eyes on Him. I tried, but I struggled. Long story short, I could never fully forgive her and give her back to the Lord in my heart until now. God is so good.” – Christina H.
“I chose to fast from sunrise to sunset. In the second week, God started to move. He showed me the areas of my life where I was lacking obedience. He started to show me Matthew 6:33 and the depths of that scripture. For the last three days of the fast I stepped it up to liquids only for Friday through Sunday. I want to take this time to really press in on this scripture and to walk away with a clear understanding of what God will have me do next to promote his kingdom and to walk in righteousness. To God All the Glory, be blessed! – Bill M.
“Thank you again for your leadership in this vital ministry. I began this two-week prayer initiative by starting my day with the Lord at 5 a.m., fasting until 1 p.m. God has sent such wonderful blessings. He has shown me areas in my life for which I should have asked for forgiveness. I am more conscious now of this stumbling block. I feel clean and very light on my feet! God’s word is sweet and He has assured me that ‘what I have said, I will do.’ I feel more loved than ever, more committed to His will for my life, and hungrier than ever before…I am ‘locked and loaded’ and ready for battle! God bless you!” – Kathy W.
“Wow! Today's devotion by Michael Racine is beautiful! Citing all of the Scriptures which give meaning to his message, I am encouraged and refreshed to know that our prayer and fasting is part of God’s desire to follow Him. I find the Holy Spirit giving me supernatural strength of resolve to fellowship with the Lord day and night! May our precious Lord be glorified, and May He draw ever nearer to each of us as we seek Him! Thank you.” – Anonymous
“I started off the fast feeling unsure of whether I would be able to make it through. I usually get quite lightheaded and a bit foggy in the brain during the day while fasting but I decided to move forward in God’s strength. While praying a few days after I began the fast I realized what an honor and privilege it was to know God and to have the opportunity through fasting to grow closer to him. I felt so empowered and blessed. The days after I have felt stronger in my faith and in my body…I am so very grateful to Chistian Union for being an organization that answers the call of helping God's people seek him wholeheartedly through programs such as this. To God be the Glory!” – Dian N.
“I shared with others some of the scriptures. Powerful. I’ve thought for a long time that the Holy Spirit does not receive the recognition He deserves from my sisters and brothers in Christ. And obedience is something that I learned was and is so important to our Father. Thank you. It was an awesome two weeks.” – Dena D.
“Praise God for his abundant blessing and the increasing reach of Christian Union. This morning I spoke at length to a friend in Kenya who has numerous problems with their start up church. The Spirit was leading me through the conversation and we allied about drawing close to the Lord as mentioned in James chapter 4. I mentioned the changes in my life since I have repented and began fasting and praying.” – Bert B.
“These email [devotions] are a great blessing to me. They are so well written and thoughtful and edifying in expounding on God’s words. They’re helping me to keep my eyes on God throughout the day and prayerfully draw closer to Him. I'm thankful the Lord led me to sign up for this fast.” – Shelley B.
Christian Union Day and Night will sponsor it’s next nationwide days of fasting and prayer in August 2022. All American Christians are encouraged to join by signing up at CU Day and Night’s website.
