David French: Humility, Absence of Malice Are Paramount

The overturning of Roe v. Wade was momentous. But as David French argues in this article for The Atlantic, what happens next is just as important.

“The pro-life movement should greet the reversal of Roe v. Wade with a spirit of gratitude. The people of this country have, for the first time in almost 50 years, an opportunity to enact laws that truly protect the lives of unborn children. But the movement should also show a profound humility and absence of malice toward their political opponents.”

Washington, DC, USA - September 27, 2020: One of the few counter-protesters at the No Confirmation Until Inauguration Rally at the Supreme Court holds a sign that says, "I am the pro-life generation."French goes on to present data showing that though banning abortion might seem to be the logical step in reducing abortions, abortions actually increase during bans. He also points to studies that show that women who have abortions do not find the experience something they want to repeat—generally, women don’t want to have an abortion, but they feel like they don’t have any other options.

If the pro-life movement hopes to actually reduce abortions in the coming years, it must be willing to listen to and support the women who are seeking abortions.

Christian Union has supported the pro-lfie movement since it’s inception and is excited to work towards further reducing abortions, supporting and providing practical care for women, and seeing our nation more fully reflect our God who made every person in His image.
