A Mission to Live Like Jesus Did
by Tim pillsbury, ministry director of christian union vox
“We know that we have come to know him if we keep his commands. Whoever says, “I know him,” but does not do what he commands is a liar, and the truth is not in that person. But if anyone obeys his word, love for God is truly made complete in them. This is how we know we are in him: Whoever claims to live in him must live as Jesus did.”
–1 John 2:3-6 NIV
After a student joins Christian Union Vox, the real work begins. We are not here just to put names on a list, but instead to disciple Christians to live like Jesus lived and do what Jesus did. John is clear: if we want to call ourselves Christians, we need to both know how Jesus lived and then live that way ourselves. There is no shortcut past obedience.
And that’s what we’ve been doing on a daily basis here. We’ve had speakers coming every week, talking on topics from evangelism to marriage. We’ve more than doubled our average attendance in the last year, bringing in many of the new class of 2028 to help out.
Dozens of students spend time studying in our offices, and I’ve been able to meet many more. The socials team has been hard at work, as well, facilitating community and conversation with wonderfully crafted events. And our first-year men’s and first-year women’s Bible courses are going strong, with excellent attendance in both. In short: God is at work, and we are privileged enough to see it. Praise His name!
We are still seeking more from God and relying on Him more than ever. Although He gave us the perfect blueprint for personal and societal change in his Word; the implementation of it remains the hardest, and most rewarding, part.
Since 2011 CU Vox has worked to bring spiritual transformation and renewal to campus by seeking the Lord, growing in knowledge and love of His Word, and thoughtfully engaging Dartmouth with the gospel. Opportunities provided to students through CU Vox include intellectually rigorous Bible courses, one-on-one student discipling, and training for students to develop as Christian leaders.
CU Vox also offers conferences and retreats each semester and a weekly leadership lecture series called The Vine, which features great worship, talks from compelling speakers, and space for students to grow together in fellowship.
