October thus far has been a time of great growth and outreach for the students here at Cornell. Freshman campaign has ended, and the regular school year is in full swing. As things have begun to take on a normal schedule, students are regularly involved in Bible courses, daily prayer, and other events. Along with this, new relationships continue to be formed and grow within our community.
We had an important event this last week which was planned and executed by our outreach team. We had a free book giveaway using Lee Strobel’s The Case for Christ. The Saturday prior to the event, I lead a discussion with students about the importance of evangelism, how Christians should go about bringing the gospel to others, and other questions about outreach. On Wednesday, we set up a table on campus with books and free coffee. Throughout the day, several students came to help with the giveaway, some coming for short periods, and others for most of the time we were out.
God has already begun producing fruits from the labor of our students. During the giveaway, some people were able to have short conversations about the book, and about Christianity in general. There were some Christian students on campus who stopped by who were not familiar with Christian Union. We received contact information from several people who are interested in getting involved in our events and Bible courses in the future. Two people showed up to Vita Fidei, our group gathering, that evening. As it has only been two days at the time of my writing this, many more fruits from the event are sure to come.
As we move on through the month of October, there are several other things happening here and we would appreciate your prayers.
- We have a second day of our book giveaway which is happening next week. Pray for a positive reception, and for volunteers.
- Following our second day of the book giveaway, we will be hosting a Q&A event for people to bring their questions about the Christian faith. We have a panel of four students to answer questions. Pray for the guiding of the Holy Spirit for these students, as well as for conversion for those who are questioning who attend.
- The Seeking God team has been wanting to encourage fasting for the students in CU,and we are trying to put together a week of fasting during the month of November.
- Also, be in prayer for our students who are dealing with stress, frustration, and discouragement in many different ways. Pray that God would strengthen them in their faith through the power of the gospel.
We continue to be amazed at God’s work here at Cornell, and we know that he will not cease to grow his Kingdom on this campus.
