Dear CU Gloria Cornerstone Partners and friends of the ministry,
Christian Union at Harvard is in the final month of the fall semester, and we have finally hit a rhythm. Even in my short time here, I can attest to the extra difficulty of finding a pace of life in the first semester of the academic year. Fall brings with it much energy, but much chaos. We, on faculty, as well as our students, are grateful to have slowed down–even if we only have a few weeks remaining.
Speaking of rhythm, this fall has been focused not only on acquiring a stability in everyday life (classes, meetings, meals, sleep, homework, etc.), but also on finding a centered pace in our devotional lives with Christ. From the overflow of our Executive Team’s vision of “Abiding in Christ,” the student ministry leaders who plan and oversee our weekly Friday evening gatherings chose to focus every Friday this semester on a different spiritual discipline. So far, we have heard biblically, historically, and theologically enriching messages on fasting, keeping the Sabbath, reading scripture, worship, almsgiving, and prayer. Our last gathering before the holidays will be focused on celebration and thanksgiving, and I’m particularly excited about that. What a joy it is that Christ invites us not only into disciplines of austerity but also those of joy!
I have been deeply encouraged by our students’ reactions to this devotional emphasis. Many of them fasted for perhaps the first time, but I doubt it will be their last. The student-led hours of prayer continue to accumulate; we see very clearly that as our students seek the Lord, the Lord answers them. We see a growing desire from the CU Gloria community to see Jesus known and worshiped on Harvard’s campus. For those of you walking alongside us in prayer and other various ways, please be encouraged. God is surely at work among us.
As you lift us up in prayer, please pray for me (Sadie) and my co-laborer, Jim. We continue to ask God for wisdom on how to steward what He is doing among the students whom He has entrusted to us, and we want to walk forward in true humility! We would also ask that you pray for our student ministry leaders in particular–we are on the verge of something spiritually significant, and I believe God is and will continue to use our students for His purposes on campus.
Thank you again, so much, for your partnership in the gospel of Jesus Christ at Harvard! You are deeply appreciated. If God leads, please prayerfully consider the opportunity to be a tangible part of what God is doing among us!
With joy,
Sadie Sasser
