As we enter the Fall semester, there is much anticipation among CU Martus student leaders about how the Lord will reunite Penn students and spread the Gospel among the student body. I am living in anticipation as well as I begin my first year as the Ministry Director at Christian Union Martus. I am delighted to be called to do God's work at Penn!
In preparation for this effort, 35 CU Martus student leaders attended our pre-retreat at Camp Sankanac to reconnect with each other and the Lord. We had rich times of building meaningful bonds, deepening our faith, ministering to one another in small groups, and corporate worship sessions where the Holy Spirit was able to minister to the entire CU Martus student leadership team. If pre-retreat was an indication of things to come, then this will be a great year for Penn students who encounter CU Martus! Myself, and the CU Martus student leaders, all agree that the prayers for CU Martus are catalysing our efforts of outreach, relationship building, and developing Christian leaders.
This week we kicked off the Freshman Campaign and saw approximately 200 incoming freshmen at the student commons for a midnight pancake breakfast. It was very obvious that the Lord was opening opportunities to share the Gospel as we spoke with students who were either of the Christian faith looking for a place to belong, or students who were stumbling drunk from parties. One student, in particular, was coming from a party, obviously intoxicated, and genuinely expressed interest in learning about who God was and what the Scriptures have to say concerning Jesus and Christianity. There is a clear indication that the Lord is opening doors and opportunities for His word to be confirmed, as it goes forth to accomplish what it set out to do (Isa. 55:11).
As we continue our efforts, I ask that you pray:
- For a “Spirit of wisdom and revelation” for all students at Penn, that the Holy Spirit would meet their curiosity of God (Eph. 1: 17).
- Continued opportunities and favor to share the Gospel and Jesus Christ (2 Thes. 3:1-5).
- That the Holy Spirit would convict of sin for salvation and “continue to add to [our] numbers daily” (Acts 2:47). Specifically, for our Bible Courses.
- That bold, transformational Christian Leaders would be developed in Phillia (Leadership Lecture Series) and Bible courses.
- Continued perseverance and physical health as CU Martus students and faculty reach out to incoming freshmen during our campaign.
We have high hopes for the days ahead. Thank you for your continued prayer and support of CU Martus!
In Christ,
Cory Lotspeich
