Greetings in Christ from CU Martus!
As stated in the previous letter, we conducted our winter retreat. I’m pleased to say that we had 40 students that attended a retreat where we discussed the Holy Spirit and the gospel. This was a time for students to live out our third goal of being steeped in Scripture and exercise the model we see in Acts 17:11 of examining the scriptures to investigate what was being discussed at the winter retreat. Students came away being challenged in their faith, spurred on to evaluate Scripture further, and also building life-long bonds with one another.
Furthermore, since our last contact, I have rolled out two initiatives on campus: 1) Bible Course Leaders working group, and 2) prayer workshops. Each of these initiatives are incremental goals to achieve our mission to develop and connect transformative Christian leaders. While Christian leaders need to match, and exceed, the skills and abilities of traditional leadership thought and training, they also need to be strong and bold in their faith and deeply rooted in the scriptures. These two initiatives will move us closer to developing Christian leaders at CU Martus.
The Bible Course Leaders working group is dedicated to making Bible courses at CU Martus the single greatest experience of a student's college career. We are making practical and measurable steps toward actualizing this goal. Please pray that the working group would:
- Be effective in achieving our goal to have Bible courses be the single greatest experience of a student's college career.
- Further increase our students' capacity to be Christian leaders who are steeped in Scripture, bold in faith, and a living witness of the gospel.
- Be filled with the wisdom of God to achieve this goal.
Lastly, I also rolled out a seven-week prayer workshop that teaches students through our prayer guide that I recently developed. If we are to develop Christian leaders, they, like the early church, need to have a robust life in which they seek the Lord wholeheartedly. Inspiration for this seven-week workshop came from Luke 11:1, “Lord, teach us to pray.” It is fitting, and right, for those who wish to lead to have a lifestyle of seeking the Lord. Please join me in praying for this workshop,
- That it would motivate, inspire, and stir students to hunger for God in greater ways (Matt 5:6);
- That God would draw near to us as we seek him (James 4:8, Matt 6:5-8, 10, Luke 11:13);
- That students, Penn culture, and campus would be transformed by the presence of God (2 Cor 3:18, 2 Chron 7:14);
- That it would bring students under the conviction of the Holy Spirit so that they would repent and pray continually (Luke 11:8; 18:1).
Thank you for your continual prayer and support!
