This December we and our students have been reading a new Advent devotional—Come Let Us Adore Him, by Paul Tripp—which we gave out at our Christmas party at the beginning of the month. Here’s a taste of the encouragement and refreshment we’ve received from it:
This season, in the midst of all the celebrations and gift-giving, be careful to remember that at the center of what we celebrate is one game-changing, life-altering, hope-giving reality: grace is a person, and his name is Jesus. God knew that nothing else would ever repair what sin had broken, so he gave us the ultimate gift of gifts, the gift of his Son. It’s not enough to say that Jesus came to preach grace to us. It is not enough to say that he came to give grace to us. No, Jesus is God’s redeeming grace, given to those who without him would have no hope in life or in death. Now that’s worth celebrating, not just on one special day but on every day of your life, and for the rest of eternity too!
Jesus is God’s grace to us! We are praying that you who are reading this would know, love, and celebrate that reality—know, love, and celebrate Him—now and throughout the coming new year. And we are asking God the same for Stanford’s students. To that end, we invite you to join us in prayer:
- Father, please bless the remaining time of break for Stanford students. Refresh them as they are with family and friends, and open their hearts to your grace in Christ.
- Father, please bless the upcoming winter quarter for these students. Let many hear and believe the gospel through your body at Stanford.
- Father, please bless the Stanford students in Bible courses in the upcoming quarter. Speak clearly and powerfully to them as they study Romans, and draw near to them through your word. Enable them to respond to you in faith and obedience.
- Father, please bless our student leadership as they continue to seek recognition from the University’s administration so that they can operate with all the responsibilities and privileges of official student groups.
Thank you for your partnership in Christ’s kingdom through prayer!
