Life is a dialogue beyond ourselves, not a monologue in which we create our own story (Psalm 135:15-18). We are co-creators with an eternal Creator, and our well-being depends upon the participation of fellow human beings. To make a contribution and lead the conversation, we first analyze what has been said and how our voices, flowing from the ever-evolving dialogue with God and others, will be heard in the grand scheme of things. We listen and learn with humility and faith before we make our voices heard. That’s how we reach beyond ourselves toward a larger purpose. That’s how we know to live well and make human flourishing possible.
To honor this vision of wellbeing, CU Lux was privileged to host an alumni panel with honored guests sharing about their life at Yale and beyond. Participants were asked to discuss the following questions:
- Has your understanding of God or Christianity changed since you’ve left college?
- What are some ways in which you are currently and actively living out your faith in the secular world?
- Do you have any dating advice?
- How do you think being involved in spiritual leadership during college has impacted your leadership in secular environments?
- Do you have any advice to offer the students as they think about post-grad lives and careers?
Much wisdom filled the evening. Students entered into this dialogue with their whole being. There were “wow” moments, laughter, increased hearts rates, and many Amens, among other things, on the receiving end. Overall, the alumni panel was better than gold, a true instruction in wisdom (Prov 16.16).
Dialogue with God and others is a communal story, a mutual witnessing, a joint proclamation, a giving and receiving of the reasons for our hope. Who are the dialogue partners that contribute to your wellbeing? Even within the Godhead, communication is vital. Our Trinitarian God is dialogical.
At CU Lux, we are tremendously blessed by your continued prayers for the work of our ministry. Your praises and intercessions, thanksgiving, and petitions represent your missional endeavor to participate in our dialogue and enrich our lives. We, the Body of Christ crucified and risen, speak and listen to and on behalf of each other.
Blessings,
