The spring semester at Yale always seems to fly by, and here we find ourselves again entering the final week of classes. As our Bible courses wrap up, yet even before we send off our graduating seniors, pray for their transition to the next stage of their lives as we rejoice at what God is doing in our midst now.
First off, we thank God for raising up bright new student leaders to carry our ministry forward this next year and beyond. We prayed last spring that God would send us leaders in the incoming class, and He has delivered in a big way. With a current sophomore and two first-years leading our new executive team, and several first-year students stepping into other key leadership positions, we are a young ministry moving forward. We are excited to see what God will do through these young men and women who have already demonstrated not only bold faith, creativity and an eagerness to serve, but also teachability and a real hunger to know God and make Him known together. Please pray for these student leaders, up and running in their new positions as of a few weeks ago, that God will continue to guide, embolden and strengthen them—that they will continue to draw near to God, and He to them.

We'll scorch the earth
In part one of this post, I began to explore the meaning of the subdue/rule language of the Creation Mandate in Genesis 1:26-28 with the help of Richard Middleton’s book, The Liberating Image: The Imago Dei in Genesis 1. If you haven’t already done so, I invite you to take a few minutes to go back and read that post and catch up before continuing with this post.
For one weekend, students worshiped and prayed together, heard from high-caliber speakers, experienced engaging breakout sessions, connected with one another in small groups, and built cross-campus ties around shared challenges and opportunities.

Teach me to do your will,
for you are my God!
Let your good Spirit lead me
on level ground!
— Psalm 143:10

"And God blessed them. And God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth and subdue it, and have dominion/rule over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over every living thing that moves on the earth.” - Genesis 1:28
Certain words have a way of grabbing our attention – some are rich and full of meaning, others trigger memories, good or bad, and still others disorient you for one reason or another. For years, my attention has been drawn to the mandate given to humanity in Genesis 1:26-28, particularly the command to subdue and have dominion/rule. In a post-colonial world, those words, when applied to humanity, have a way of punching me in the gut and disorienting me.
