Greetings from New York City!
There is much to relate in this letter, all of it encouraging. We seem to be in a season of great activity in a number of areas, all of which provide some wonderful opportunities for those of you in the New York area.
Earlier this week we hosted our January Christian Union New York Forum with Robert Louis Wilken speaking on Spiritual Freedom: Freedom From Within. Dr. Wilken is professor emeritus at the University of Virginia and a prolific author. His challenge to pursue freedom — for the pursuit of being what we were created to be — was a helpful response to our cultural tendency to pursue happiness rather than fulfillment. The daily challenge of living as Christians in the cultural reality of today is always adventuresome — sometimes in an encouraging way, often not so much. God sent His Son to usher into the world a new reality for humanity. The Christian Union New York Gospel of the Kingdom conference Feb 8-11 will explore how the Gospel of Jesus Christ changes our mindset, ethics, lifestyle and authority, with a special emphasis on the power that flows for today's Christian as a fruit of the Gospel. New York City Christian Union is delighted to announce the Nexus: Professionals conference April 1-3 in New Haven, CT. This conference, running from Friday evening to Sunday noon is for any professional, young or old, seeking to better understand how to live well as a Christian in a post-secular world.
