Last month also heralded our first Christian Union Cities conference. Held in Manhattan this gathering drew 100 attendees from DC to Boston for two days of worship, teaching, fun, and discussion around the question of how we engage our cities with the Gospel. “They Turned the World Upside Down” served as the theme of our time – drawing us into the question of what it would take to personally and collectively pursue such change leading to systemic shifts in how our culture determines core values, beliefs and behavior…to turn the world upside down. From Os Guinness to Bishop Claude Alexander to the various breakouts, this was what we explored.
If you were able to attend all or part of the conference, we’re so glad you came. If you were unable to, we hope you’ll join us next year. In either case, mark your calendar for June 21-22, 2019 for CU Cities Conference 2019. The website is up and we will be updating it regularly as we finalize speakers and breakouts. Additionally, you can find video and audio from this year’s sessions here.
We are also delighted to announce the launch of Christian Union DC – our cities ministry to those living and working in the Washington, DC area. DC is not only one of the most influential cities in the nation (and world), but is also the landing place for many of our alumni from the CU university ministries. Much like New York our efforts will be on equipping men and women to live faithfully and boldly in a broken world, and for engaging their city and culture in deeply redemptive ways.
Finally, in partnership with Concerts of Prayer and Grace & Mercy Foundation, CU New York is sponsoring a monthly prayer hour to listen to and read scripture, and to pray for New York. This takes place on the second Wednesday of every month from 6:30-7:30pm. Our next prayer time is August 8 at Redeemer Presbyterian Church’s W83rd location.
In a world that changes with breakneck speed – in ways both encouraging and distressing – we know that our God does not change. He is the ultimate reality in how we understand ourselves and the world, and what it means for us and others to genuinely flourish. May this next month also be a remarkable one as we live in the truth of the Gospel and draw others into what that means.
Blessings,
Scott Crosby
