For the past few days ten of us have been participating in a conference on global affairs – geopolitical and economic trends and what they mean. Topics range from China’s Grand Strategy to Cyber Security to the Fintech Revolution - and the people gathered for the conference have been equally fascinating as they range from business and financial executives to academics to government policy makers around the world.
The conference is not a “Christian” conference but the relevance is no less real. How we understand our faith and step redemptively into the realities of today’s world depends in part on how well we understand the world we are supposed to be stewarding and blessing. As Christians we should be able to contribute to its flourishing in tangible ways and in every sphere. It is, therefore, encouraging to see how the young professionals with me process these sessions in this light.
Lord Michael Hastings, head of Global Citizenship for KPMG and member of the House of Lords (UK), spoke to us at a private morning session on the importance of anchoring our careers and lives around our purpose – the purpose we have as God’s children and His stewards, made in His image. His own life in education, business and government are a testimony to how that can work.

We were delighted to host our first Christian Union DC salon on Tuesday, September 25 with Mark Rodgers, founder and principal of The Clapham Circle, speaking on, Christ, Culture and Clapham. The conversation was around the theory of social change pursued by William Wilberforce and Hannah More in their efforts to "reform the manners" of late-18th c. England.
