The annual CU New York Yacht Cruise late last month was spectacular – a cool vintage yacht, gorgeous weather, and a collection of sixty of the most fun people to hang out with. From recent grads to grizzled veterans of the Big Apple it was an afternoon of fun and fellowship, followed by an after-party at The Park.
The yacht cruise is also the time when we roll out plans for the fall and winter in New York. In case you’ve missed my repetitive musings on what we do – it’s about living out what we’re called to be – new creatures living righteously, and co-heirs with Christ being intentionally redemptive through our work and engagement of our city. New York will be a very different place in 20 years – will it be because of us?
If you missed this year’s yacht cruise, mark your 2019 calendar for Sep 21 when we’ll re-host.
Speaking of events, there are a few coming up:
New York
Movement Day: Friday, Oct 26. A one-day event bringing NYC leaders together for a day filled with engaging conversations leading to a shared agenda, shared language and shared metrics for tracking the impact of the gospel in the 10 most underperforming zip codes. CU New York has been a co-sponsor of Movement Day for ten years and we invite you to join business leaders, church leaders, and non-profit leaders for these conversations. Find out more here.
CU New York Salon: Tuesday, Nov 13. One of our monthly salons highlighting various aspects of the Christian faith in light of daily life. Join us to hear Justin Earley speak on developing thoughtful spiritual habits to anchor us daily. The discussion will focus on what it means to pair our theology on the meaning of work with the formational practice of spiritual work habits - to bring order and purpose back to our lives. You can find more information and RSVP here.
Washington DC
We’re excited to have so many things coming together in the DC area. In regard to CU alumni (those involved with CU during university years) DC is where the second-highest number of these alumni land for work. It’s been fun to begin to build a network among them, as well as other professionals in the area that share an interest in engaging different spheres in that city with the gospel. We will be hosting bi-monthly (i.e. every other month) salons in DC – with our first one held last month and our next one in late November. If you are interested in being on the CU DC mailing list for events please let us know at cunewyork@christianunion.org. And feel free to connect us with any DC friends who may want to get involved.
Blessings to you as we enter into the heart of autumn. May you continue to seek God fully,
Scott Crosby
